This practice is known as Istikhara. I went to the Womens Crisis Centre, Dastak, in Lahora, Pakistan. I wanted to explore the lives and stories of the women from a different angle – that of the dreams they had had before leaving their violent and abusive marriages and families. The local tradition here includes a third gender, called Muxe. The Muxe are neither regarded as men or women, but socially in the society and in their families, they behave as women. She is a trained commercial photographer and storyteller. She has lived and travelled extensively for 8 years in South America. Lately her focus has been on stories from Mexcio, Pakistan and Denmark. Her work ranges from feature portrait stories to more abstract photoseries. Her work has been shown at numerous exhibitions and been published by the largest Danish newspaper, Jyllandsposten, Al Jazeera and in books and magazines. In 2020 she was awarded Honorable Mentions in the International Photo Competition PX3 in Paris, and in Tokyo Photo Awards.
