The Unseen

The Unseen is an audiovisual collaboration between visual storyteller Shazia Khan and musician and composer Ole Reimer.

The work brings together Shazia Khan’s moving images and photographic language with an original live score composed and performed by Ole Reimer. Images, sound and space become part of the same artistic expression, creating an immersive experience in which the visual and the musical constantly influence and respond to one another.

The work explores what lies beneath the visible surface of everyday life. Khan’s images move between people, places and fleeting moments, drawing attention to details and stories that might otherwise remain unnoticed. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, The Unseen invites the audience to slow down, look and listen – and to experience the images through sound as well as sight.

The music is composed specifically for the visual material and the space in which the work is presented. Reimer works with composition, improvisation and recorded sounds, allowing the score to develop in dialogue with the images and the surroundings. Each performance therefore becomes a meeting between the work, the architecture and the moment.

The Unseen has been presented in a range of spaces and contexts, including Bellahøj Church, Operaen på Christiania and Mariakirken during Kulturnatten in Copenhagen. In 2025, the work was also presented at the Vernacular Institute in Mexico City.

The project is part of Khan and Reimer’s long-standing artistic collaboration, which brings together photography, film, music and stories about people, identity and lived experience.
