In Mexico, lucha libre exists somewhere between sport, theatre and ritual. Inside the arena, masked wrestlers become larger-than-life characters, while the audience becomes part of the spectacle.These portraits focus on the people who inhabit this world — wrestlers and fans, masked and unmasked. They explore the space between performance and reality, and the way a mask can both conceal a person and reveal another identity.
